Notice of Resignation of the AMS-NYSSL President, Christopher Moore

Dear colleagues,   Please be informed of my resignation as President of the NYSSL Chapter of the American Musicological Society, effective immediately. When I accepted the role of President of the Chapter in the Summer of 2024, I did so with the conviction that my voluntary contributions could build on a strong legacy of dedication to the organization and promotion of musicological work throughout the international geographical jurisdiction of our Chapter, one that serves an incredibly diverse, inspiring, and engaged musicological community. I remain convinced that the Chapter should pursue this work. However, the political situation of the past few weeks, and especially that of the past few days, has compelled me to decide to withdraw my service from the AMS. As a Canadian citizen, I have very little leverage with which to express my utter dismay with the actions and policies of the current American government. 2024 ANNUAL MEETING AT SUNY POTSDAM

We are excited to share with you the program for the 2024 Spring Meeting of the New York State Saint Lawrence Chapter of the American Musicological Society.  The panels and lightning talks explore the following topics, among others:  > Exile, Diaspora, and Transnational Dialogues  > Music in New York  > Piano Music from Composition to Performance  > Sound and Media Studies  > Gender and Singing Spaces  The keynote address will be offered by Emily Abrams Ansari (University of Western Ontario) and its title is “ Music as Craftivism : The “Quiet” Feminist Activism of Ann Southam’s Minimalist Piano Works ”.  Dear all,  With the 2023  AMS Annual Meeting  coming up, we wanted to  invite  you to make the most of the meeting by connecting with other  NYSSL  Chapter members and talking to your Chapter leaders.  On Thursday, November 9, 5pm - 6:15pm Find our  table  at the  Joint Interest Group and Affiliates Fair  (Location:  South Convention Lobby) On Friday, November 10 ,  5:30pm - 7pm Meet with us for  an informal gathering.  We will gather at the  hotel bar  at  5:30pm . If it is not convenient to stay there (too many people, too noisy, etc.), we can walk as a group to another place at around 5:45pm. Dear colleagues, It’s with great pleasure that we announce that the 2023 edition of the NYSSL AMS Chapter Annual Meeting will be held on April 14 th and 15 th 2023 , at the Music Faculty of Université de Montréal (Canada).  The event will be organized by the Canada Research Chair in Music and Politics , directed by Marie-Hélène Benoit-Otis , Associate Professor of Musicology at Université de Montréal, in collaboration with the Observatoire interdisciplinaire de recherche et de création en musique (OICRM). Location and dates: Eastman School of Music (Rochester), April 9-10, 2022 Deadline for proposals: Wednesday, February 23 The 2022 spring meeting of the New York State – Saint Lawrence chapter of the American Musicological Society will take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10 at the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester) in Rochester, New York. We welcome proposals for 20-minute presentations on all areas of scholarship in music, in addition to proposals for panels or other alternative format sessions. In keeping with Eastman’s Centennial Celebration , we would like to encourage proposals dealing with any kind of musical performance or with the history and politics of music education in the United States. We are very happy to share with you that our chapter's next annual meeting will be organized jointly by the Eastman School of Music , as part of their Centennial celebration, and the Music Theory Society of New York State , who are celebrating their 50 year anniversary.  The conference is scheduled for  April 9-10, 2022 (Sat-Sun) at Eastman (Rochester, NY) .
