Hosted by the Research Canada Chair in Music and Politics, in collaboration with the

Deadline for proposals: Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:59pm

The 2023 Spring Meeting of the New York State / St. Lawrence Chapter of the American Musicological Society will take place on Friday and Saturday 14-15 April at the Faculté de musique de l’Université de Montréal, province of Quebec. Information on local hotels, B&Bs and restaurants will be posted on our website as it becomes available.

We welcome papers on all topics, in addition to panel recommendations. We also wish to encourage proposals for a session of lightning talks consisting of five-minute research presentations on any topic.

Please use this submission form to submit proposals for both types of presentations. For 20-minute presentations, please share an abstract of no more than 200 words. For 5-minute lightning talks, please simply share the topic and a 2-3 sentence description. The form will also ask you to indicate your name, affiliation, and contact information, as well as any unique tech and/or accessibility requirements. Graduate students who wish to be considered for the AMS-NYSSL Student Paper Prize should check the appropriate box on the form. The submission of an abstract presupposes that the proposer agrees to present the talk should the program committee accept it.

The conference will feature a keynote address by Monica Hershberger, Assistant Professor of Music at SUNY – Geneseo, entitled “Soprano Dorothy Maynor at the Hampton Institute”.

You do not need to be a member of the AMS or the NYSSL chapter to submit a proposal. Should your paper be selected for presentation though, you will need to pay the meeting fee ($20 for full-time faculty, $10 for all others). Participants will be asked to e-transfer the fee at the beginning of the meeting.

For questions about submissions, please contact the Catherine Harrison-Boisvert, scientific coordinator of the Research Canada Chair in Music Politics and coordinator of the event: catherine.harrison-boisvert@umontreal.ca.

We look forward to welcoming you all in Montreal!
