COVID-19
As you may have predicted, given the news that Covid-19 has reached pandemic status, the Chapter meeting organizers and officers have made the difficult decision to cancel the conference. Inspired by the program and to honor the work that had already been invested in holding the conference, it seemed that a virtual or online conference would offer a solution. But a few days of working with the logistics of moving to online formats for remainder of term, as well as for exams, has proved demanding not only of the instructors and TAs, but also of the tech staff at all our universities. It no longer seems feasible.
We propose to hold the conference at Colgate University next year (2021). Mary Simonson, program chair and co-organizer of the Chapter meeting with Seth Coluzzi, has already written to many of you. To summarize, if you were presenting this year, you will be guaranteed a spot on the program next year. We will send out another CFP and expand the program to two full days to give others an opportunity to present as well. We hope that next year's slightly larger format will make up for this.
I want to extend a thank you to everyone who has devoted time organizing this meeting so far: conference chairs and organizers, Mary Simonson and Seth Coluzzi (noted above), program committee members Ellen Lockhart and Erin Brooks, NYSSL chapter secretary-treasurer Colleen Renihan, AMS secretary Lydia Hamessley, and AMS Council representative Kimberly Francis, and our keynote Christina Baade. We'll just be one step ahead next year!
