Fall Update & Next Chapter Conference

Greetings and Happy Fall to all members of the NYSSL chapter,


As we start to prepare for the November meeting of the American Musicological Society in Vancouver, I thought now would be a good time to invite members comments for the National meeting of the Chapter Societies. Drop me an email if you would like an issue brought forward at this meeting.


We can also confirm that the 2017 NYSSL chapter meeting will be held at the University of Toronto, April 22-23. This coincides with the Canadian Opera Company's production of Louis Riel, which premiers on the 20th, and has a second performance on the 23rd. Sherry Lee and Caryl Clark from the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music are also hosting an all-day symposium on the opera April 21. NYSSL members are warmly invited to attend. Dear AMS-NYSSL Members,  My colleagues and I are really looking forward to welcoming you to Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, for our annual meeting of the AMS -NYSSL chapter. The conference will run from Tuesday April 16 through Wednesday April 17. The schedule is posted below [click on image to enlarge]. Location: The conference will be held in Room 329 at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts i n Kingston, Ontario (390 King St W, Kingston, ON K7L 2X4). Call For Proposals: 2024 Annual Meeting of the AMS - NYSSL Chapter

Host Institution: State University of New York, Potsdam, New York, USA Chair: Professor Erin Brooks Date: April 12-13, 2024 Deadline for proposals: Thursday, February 1, 2024 We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Annual Meeting of the New York State St. Lawrence Chapter of the American Musicological Society will take place on Friday and Saturday 12-13 April, at Potsdam (USA), hosted by the State University of New York Potsdam and chaired by Professor Erin Brooks.  We welcome proposals for 20-minute presentations on all areas of scholarship in music, in addition to proposals for panels or alternate format sessions. We also encourage proposals for a session of lightning talks consisting of five-minute research presentations on any topic (including work-in-progress).   Please use this submission form to submit proposals for all types of presentations. 2024 ANNUAL MEETING AT SUNY POTSDAM

We are excited to share with you the program for the 2024 Spring Meeting of the New York State Saint Lawrence Chapter of the American Musicological Society.  The panels and lightning talks explore the following topics, among others:  > Exile, Diaspora, and Transnational Dialogues  > Music in New York  > Piano Music from Composition to Performance  > Sound and Media Studies  > Gender and Singing Spaces  The keynote address will be offered by Emily Abrams Ansari (University of Western Ontario) and its title is “ Music as Craftivism : The “Quiet” Feminist Activism of Ann Southam’s Minimalist Piano Works ”.
